Her father worked for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and her mother was a chemistry teacher in Delhi Public School, Ranipur in Haridwar and Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, New Delhi. She has an older brother named Abhiroop Saran.

She made herself known to the outside world with her Telugu debut film Ishtam in 2001. She played the role of Neha in the film, but her first commercially successful film was Santosham (2002).
The following year, she made her Hindu debut with a supporting role in Tujhe Meri Kasam alongside Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza.
