Janhvi Kapoor is the daughter of film producer, Boney Kapoor, and late actress and film producer, Sridevi. Her mother died in February 2018. She has a younger sister named Khushi Kapoor and two older paternal half-siblings, Anshula and Arjun Kapoor.
Actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor are her paternal uncle while actress Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor are her paternal cousins. Her paternal grandfather was Surinder Kapoor, a popular producer in Bollywood. Her maternal grandparents were Ayyapan and Rajeswari.

Film Debut
Janhvi marked her entry into Bollywood with the 2018 drama film Dhadak. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film is an official Hindi remake of the critically acclaimed Marathi movie Sairat. in which she played the lead female opposite Ishaan Khattar. Her performance in the movie earned her the Zee Cine Awards for Best Female Debut in 2019.

She was named after actress Urmila Matondkar’s character Jhanvi from the film Judaai. Sridevi shared a great bond with the actress and was pregnant with Janhvi at that time.
Before Janhvi made her debut with Dhadak, she was offered a lead role in AR Murugadoss’s bilingual movie, Spyder, opposite popular actor Mahesh Babu. She refused to take that call as she wasn’t entirely ready at that time.
